First Pediatrician Appointment

Keagan had his first doctor's appointment today. All three of us go to a family practice that has a male doctor (Erik's doctor) and a female doctor (my doctor) who are both family practitioners. We saw Dr. Lee, the female doctor today. The last time I saw her was my pre-pregnancy physical a year ago so she was excited to see our plans to start a family had worked out. She said Keagan looks great. She watched him breastfeed and was impressed at his vigor. He has a little "breastfeeding" jaundice (not the scary kind of jaundice) that should go away in the next week. He now weighs 8lbs which is great because he'll definately be back to his birth weight by two weeks, which is what they like to see. So all this was well and good, until the nurse came back in to do the stupid PKU and other metabolic diseases test for us. This test requires four round circles on a piece of paper to be completely filled in with his blood from a heal prick. This took both heels to be pricked and about 15 minutes of squeezing blood from our screaming baby boy. It was awful. The nurse warned us it's a terrible test and we trooped through it with Erik holding Keagan, me trying to comfort him and the nurse trying desperately to go faster. Who designed this test! But I must say, our little boy has a great tempermant because he would stop screaming when she was just trying to massage more blood out and as soon as she was done and he was back in my arms he calmed instantly. What a trooper! Luckily, we don't need to go back to the doctor's office for three weeks.
