I recently found out some disturbing news. On November 18th the board of trustees of Beverly Hospital are meeting to discuss a proposal to end births at the Northshore Birth Center. This is where I had Keagan, and it is a wonderful place for natural childbirth. If this center closes, there will be only one natural birth center left in the entire state of Massachusetts. This is a huge step backwards for women's rights to choose where and how they give birth. I will be on the (peaceful) picket lines at the hospital at least a couple mornings before this vote- in case you want to be there with me- bright and early 6:30am for about an hour so I can be home for Erik to head off to work (as he'll be watching Keagan while I'm gone). If you can help with letter writing or perhaps you have an "in" at a TV station or newspaper, let me know!

This is rotten :( Not that I had plans to give birth there, but I hate that options are so limited - people should at least have a choice. I've clicked over to the blog and am writing a letter to send to the board!
Check out all the local tv station's websites. They all have an email section to report a story. One if not all will send a reporter there.

I concur! I had hospital births for both Loula and Will, but it doesn't change that fact that women should have a wider selection for how/where to give birth to their babies. There isn't much on this earth that is more important than the birth of a child.
