One week

Torin turned a week old yesterday and we had our first doctor's appointment. He weighed in at 9lbs 7oz! Which means he's 8 oz more than at birth. Normally, 3-4 oz in a week is expected... he's a bit ahead of the game, especially because in the first week the first lose weight- he was 8lbs 7oz when we left the hospital- so really, he's gained a pound back! He loves nursing, that's for sure. He also gained 3/4 of a inch in length. So it's been a busy week for him! Lots of eating, sleeping, pooping and growing.
He has developed some patterns during the day. When he wakes up in the morning he generally has an hour or more of "happy awake time" and we get to see his eyes and Keagan enjoys talking to him and showing him toys. Then he generally takes one or two long naps during the day- sometimes 3+ hours. He loves the swing especially for these naps. The evening sometimes shows his cranky side and all he wants is to be on Mommy. Before bedtime though, we usually get another awake session. Night time is still in transition- figuring out what works best. Generally, he's doing two hour stretches of sleep, then nursing and going back to sleep readily. Sometimes though, it can take me a half hour or more to get him back to sleep.
Big Brother seems to be doing well with the new addition. Keagan calls him "sweetie" a lot and seems concerned for him when he cries and has said many times "he likes me!" and "he's important" which is adorable. He doesn't like it when he cries in the car- mostly because then Keagan can't hear his music on the radio. But when he does cry Keagan often tries to make soothing "shhhh" noises at him. Yesterday morning, though, Keagan said "he stays with us a long time, then he goes back to the hospital." Sorry, buddy, he's here to stay forever!
