Today was the big day! Keagan was very excited and did great at the drop off. He didn't take the bus in the morning because the parents go in to drop them off and then do a little welcome meeting in the cafeteria. The kids also got a bus safety lesson today so that they would be all ready to take the bus home.
And then there was the bus home. ... Sigh... Here's what happened. Torin and I were standing at the bus stop (which is at the corner with the playground) waving at the bus as it approached and we saw Keagan inside, waving back, and the bus just kept driving. Yup. Of course I ran and screamed after it, but was apparently not seen or heard. I couldn't catch up to it (running with a 2 year old in my arms, who is now crying "where's brother!") for the next stop, but saw a Mom there I knew and screamed some craziness at her before running back to my house to call drive to the school. I am a red-faced, panting hot mess when I burst into the office and tell the lady at the desk what happened. She promptly radios the bus to say I'm there and bring Keagan back to school. The (new) assistant principal brings me some water and I thankfully calm down before Keagan gets there so he doesn't see me upset. Keagan looked at me like "why the hell was I just on the bus for an hour?" when he came in, but didn't seem traumatized. The driver explained that it's a new stop on the route and she didn't know there was anyone at it since he wasn't on the bus in the morning. Apparently, me and Torin waving wasn't clue enough. She thought Torin just loved buses.
On the way home we see the mom I screamed rubbish at earlier walking with her daughters down our street and I stop to tell her all is well.
Tomorrow we'll do it again and hope for a better result!
