Independence Day

The sun is shining! This feel miraculous to us New Englanders these days. The wind is a bit gusty, which canceled the hot air balloon at Concord's Picnic in the Park, but we had a terrific time soaking up some Vitamin D and enjoying a couple of "firsts" for Keagan. The first first was a pinwheel. He's played with one before at a friends house but I've never bought him one, so we got a Patriotic design pinwheel at the park and it was a great day for it with the wind blowing. Then Keagan had a fabulous time jumping on the track and field high jump mats that were set up on the field. This turned out to be preparation for his adventure onto a Moonbounce. Loyal blog readers will know, he's freaked out trying these in the past. Well, today, after a warm up on the high jump mat, he wanted to try again so up he climbed. At first, he said there were too many kids and got scared and climbed right back out. Then he decided he wanted to try again and figured out it was a good kind of scary and didn't want to come out- enjoying the 30 seconds he got alone when all the other kids listened to the attendant telling them time was up. We did coax him out, but he was very sad about it. He also got to climb into a fire truck and then spray a fire hose at a target with a fireman. He was also very sad when his turn at that was over. The park also has a brand new playground where Keagan adventured up onto a big slide and concurred a bouncy bridge (also a usual fear factor for him). It was quite an afternoon that could only be made better by ice cream, so we went to Erickson's on the way home for ice cream and lemonade. Now Erik's at the grill, because how can you not on the 4th? So we'll finish the day with a fitting dinner.
In baby news- I'm still pregnant :) We had a false alarm on Thursday, but since then nothing seems to be happening. It's actually been really nice to have this long weekend with just the three of us, I am enjoying and treasuring it as it may be the last few days we have without our new member.
Happy 4th everyone!
