Today was Potty Day. Since April 1st, I've had a calendar up on Keagan's wall to mark down the days to today (which had a picture of underwear on it) to prepare Keagan for when the diapers were going away. I made a potty chart for the bathroom to put stickers on every time he was successful too.
First this this morning, we took off his diaper and got him on the potty. We had two attempts at getting him to pee with no luck and then he went out into the playroom and peed in his pants. A little while after that I took him into the bathroom and decided he wasn't coming back out until he peed. He was obviously just nervous for this first time - he kept saying he didn't want to "spill", as in, miss the toilet- and I knew we just had to get him over this initiation. He was in there almost an hour and a half before producing. It was a LONG time. Thankfully, he did seem pretty eager to do it, and didn't complain much about being able to leave. I eventually also gave him some Cheerios to put in the bowl for "target practice", which seemed to help a little. With that success we headed outside for some playtime. After some running around Keagan came over to the blanket I was on with Torin and started pulling his pants down. I asked quickly if he had to pee and to go ahead, but please face away from the blanket, but he had already wet himself. In I went for more clothes, and cleaned him up. This happened a second time and after that time, we just left him in underwear to run around (literally, I did not have enough clean clothing for him- he haven't gotten all his warm weather stuff out yet).
Then Mema and Papa came for a visit and sadly, did not get to see either of the kids much because Torin decided he'd take a two hour nap while they were here, and Keagan had another hour + stint in the bathroom when we had him go in again after coming in from outside. This time he seemed to have to poop but was very reluctant. Eventually, he did at least pee, and we let him come out and we all went on a walk around the neighborhood (Keagan's first trip off our property not wearing a diaper!).
We had more success in the late afternoon with peeing, and for nighttime, still went with a diaper. He has REFUSED pull-up diapers (or training diapers). Absolutely brought him to tears when I made him try them on. So it's underwear during the day, and a Huggies Nighttime diaper at night (at least it's different than his old diapers, so he associates it with night only and doesn't get into asking about wearing it during the day).
It was a long day, folks, and I'm off to enjoy a night cap.
