Memorial Day Weekend 2011

What a gorgeous weekend! The humidity was a little tough to take at times, but it was truly the kick-off to Summer that Memorial Day weekend should be :)
Saturday we spent most of the day being productive around the house.
Sunday, we took a trip to Hampton Beach, NH. We hadn't been there in a couple years- I don't think Torin had ever been there. The weather was near perfect- warm, but a good breeze on the beach, almost enough to make it too cool when the sun was behind the clouds, but when the sun was out you didn't get too hot. And, shockingly, we didn't hit any traffic on the way there! (The way home was another story, and clogged on and off until we got back to 95, but everyone was so sated by a great day, we didn't mind too much.) We spent a couple hours on the beach. The water was, predictably, FREEZING. Keagan _had_ to put on his swim vest and give it a go, but we didn't get past his thighs. I don't blame him- my feet HURT it was so cold. Thankfully, we got there as the tide was going out and there were great tide pools to splash in, which made everyone happy. Keagan wanted to be buried in the sand, too. That was fun until he seemed to be gasping for breath from the weight of it and we had to break him out- though he was protesting and wanted to stay in.
After we had had enough sun and sand, we went to a restaurant with a second floor outdoor seating area and had some early dinner and it was off to the arcades. We hit one with a ton of kiddie rides for the boys. There was a sweet older woman playing all the grab claw games and handing out stuffed animals she won to kids. She gave each boy a lady bug, which they have coveted since. It was a fabulous trip and I'm so glad we made the effort to go.

Today, we had Keagan another family over for some outdoor kiddie pool fun and grilling for dinner. It was super fun and relaxing. Keagan and Harry get along very well and are great pals. Torin slept for the first two hours they were here (his first nap in almost two weeks!!!), and then had a blast with Shagen in the kiddie pool while the big boys went off to play inside together. It was nice to have another couple over we get along with so well and have some adult conversation and drinks while the kids entertained themselves. We finished off the evening with some popsicles and it was Torin's first one. I think more ended up on Erik than in Torin's mouth, and he got quite a shock when he tried to bite it, but he liked it once he got the hang of it. It was a great end to the long weekend. The kids were sad to be parted, but everyone was ready for bed tonight!
