Apple Picking!

What better way to kick off the Fall season (Labor Day weekend... end of summer, or start to Fall- you decide) than to go apple picking! We had never been to this place before, but it was great. It's called Tougas Farm and it's in Boylston, MA. They have orchards for apples and peaches, and berry picking as well, plus a playground and some farm animals. I was drawn to this place because they promised a tractor ride out to the orchards- how could we resist! Their orchards are gorgeous- I swear, I could have filled our peck bag on one tree! They flat out tell you to eat as you go (which we were happy to do)- they have mesh around the trunks of the trees, and these weird fake apples that I think either have bug repellent on them or something sticky that works like fly paper as alternatives to pesticides on the apples. We got Macs, Galas, Ginger Golds, and Shamrocks (yes, it's an apple too!). As I type, there in an apple crisp in the oven... mmm... They also have a nice little farm stand kitchen for lunch or a snack- and after running around the orchard, Keagan hunkered down and ate a whole grilled cheese. Then we played "Hide and Go Seek" because he saw other kids doing it- the picture of him smiling by the rock is Keagan hiding. It was a very fun trip and a great way to finish off Erik's vacation week.
